I received an invitation to visit your lab. How do I receive more information?
We get a unique perspective in understanding the development of your child by meeting you and your preschooler face-to-face. While you are here, your child will play games that tell us more about some of his or her processes such as how he or she learns and remembers. You will also be interviewed about the development of your child. To learn more about the visit and to see images of a family completing the visit, please visit our website: www.themapsstudy.com.
I’m interested in participating, but it’s not a good time right now. What should I do?
Our study is ongoing, so if you are not ready to make an appointment, we would be delighted to find any time that works best for you and your family. Please contact our Recruitment Specialist, Cecilia Ortega, at 773-615-7673.
I’m not interested in participating. What should I do?
Each and every family is important to us and we are sorry to see anyone leave our MAPS community. If you have questions or certain issues with participating, we encourage you to reach Jackie Kestler, MAPS Project Manager, at 312-503-4374.
I received an invitation a while ago, but I’m still interested. Is it too late?
Our doors are always open and it is never too late to receive more information and schedule an appointment with MAPS! Please contact our Recruitment Specialist, Cecilia Ortega, at 773-615-7673.
What appointment slots do you have available?
We offer appointments seven days a week! We offer a morning appointment from 9:15AM to 12:30PM and an afternoon slot from 1:15PM to 4:30PM. If you have questions about these times, or if this does not work for your family, please contact our Recruitment Specialist, Cecilia Ortega, at 773-615-7673.
What is the commitment to the study?
There are two visits involved in our study and each take approximately three hours to complete. You will schedule your first appointment over the phone, and your second is scheduled the day of your visit. We hope to have you return two to four weeks after your first visit. Families traveling over large distances may prefer to complete the two visits in one day. If you opt for a full-day visit, you will begin your visit at 9:30AM, take a one-hour lunch break from 12:30-1:30, and finish the session by 4:30PM. We will offer you $20 towards lunch, and also give you a 24-hour parking pass. For more information, contact Cecilia Ortega at 773-615-7673.
Where are you located?
Our office is located on the campus of Northwestern University on the corner of Saint Clair St. and Ontario St. Our physical address is 633 N. Saint Clair St, 19th Floor, Chicago, IL 60611. f you schedule an appointment, you will receive several documents, including a personalized map from your home to our office.
Do you offer travel aid?
We understand that transportation is tricky these days. We offer reimbursement for public transportation costs. If you are driving and have questions about travel aid, please contact our Recruitment Specialist, Cecilia Ortega, at 773-615-7673.
Do you offer free parking?
If you drive to an appointment, we validate parking for the Huron-Superior Parking Garage which is located at 222 E. Huron St. There are entrances on both Superior St. and Huron St.
I need to reschedule my appointment/missed my appointment. What should I do?
If you need to reschedule an appointment, we ask that you contact us at least 48-hours in advance in order for us to offer the slot to another family. To reschedule an appointment, you can reach our Recruitment Specialist, Cecilia Ortega, at 773-615-7673.
Who can I bring with me to the visit?
We value the roles that other parent figures and siblings play in the development of your preschooler. However, our study focuses on mothers and their preschoolers. You are welcome to bring another adult and they can sit in our waiting area. Because our visits require your full attention, it is best not to bring other children to the visit. We understand that finding a babysitter may be difficult. To explore options, please call our Recruitment Specialist, Cecilia Ortega, at 773-615-7673.
